We are currently recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team in the wastewater Division at our Beckton STW site. As a successful candidate you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault‑diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, ensuring all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you'll be doing:

  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  • Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid interruptions to the process, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
  • Providing technical advice, referencing up‑to‑date technical knowledge and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Working on a range of equipment such as pumps and control gear, 3‑phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems (VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level & pressure measurement, PLCs, variable speed drives), and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participating in a standby rota following the relevant training.

Required experience and qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in Electrical engineering, with upskilling in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a "true multi‑skilled" capacity.
  • Ideal candidates have mechanical qualifications to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault‑diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces and completion of appropriate training.
  • Valid driving licence.

  • Competitive salary up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Standby rota payments & overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000‑£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
