We’re looking for a Senior Energy Commercial Analyst to join our Energy & Carbon team within the Commercial Energy Buying & Contracts function. This is a pivotal and high-impact role that helps shape Thames Water’s energy risk management and hedging strategy, supporting the procurement and management of energy. You’ll provide expert market insight, support our net zero ambitions, and guide senior stakeholders with robust analysis and forecasting.
What you’ll be doing as a Senior Energy Commercial Analyst
- Enact Thames Water’s power and gas hedging strategy – making informed, data-driven decisions based on market fundamentals.
- Deliver price forecasting to support budgeting and long-term business planning, maintaining complex Excel and Power BI models.
- Provide regular energy market analysis and updates to executive stakeholders, translating complex data into clear business insight.
- Manage Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) – overseeing invoicing, price validation, forecasting, and month-end processes.
- Collaborate across the business, including Finance, Energy Suppliers, and internal Energy & Carbon teams, to support energy procurement and pricing processes.
- Support broader energy and carbon initiatives, including portfolio development and net zero business cases.
Working hours: 36 hours, Monday to Friday
What you should bring to the role
- Numerical-based qualification or equivalent showing you have a good handle on numeracy.
- Extensive experience in the energy industry, ideally within a commercial, trading, or analytical function.
- Highly numerate with advanced Excel and Power BI.
- Strong analytical mindset, capable of handling large datasets and complex models.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and make clear, informed decisions.
- Self-starter with strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Power trading or energy market analysis.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg or other energy market platforms.
- Knowledge of Python or similar analytical programming tools.
