Modelling & Insights Specialist
At Thames Water, we’re tackling one of the industry’s biggest challenges—reducing leakage to record lows while helping customers use water more efficiently. With millions of data points from smart meters and sensors across our network, we’re looking for a Modelling & Insights Specialist to transform numbers into powerful insights that shape the future of water management.
What you’ll be doing as a Modelling & Insights Specialist
As a Modelling & Insights Specialist, you’ll play a key role in our data-driven approach to understanding and reducing customer demand and water loss. Working alongside our Senior Modelling & Insights Lead, you’ll manage and enhance models that assess customer water use and leakage. You’ll ensure data is accurate, insights are meaningful, and outputs drive real change across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and improve customer water use assessments for regulatory reporting and operational insight.
- Maintain and refine data models to assess water usage and leakage.
- Work with teams across the business to ensure accurate data and understanding.
- Present models and findings clearly to internal teams and external auditors.
- Automate data processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support projects to enhance leakage detection and repair processes.
Location: Clearwater Court, Reading – Hybrid 2/3 days in office per week
Working pattern: Full-time, Monday–Friday (36 hours per week)
What you should bring to the role

- Strong mathematical modelling abilities.
- Good statistical knowledge.
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- A keen eye for data investigation and improvement.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- A degree or relevant professional qualification (or equivalent experience).
- A passion for the environment, water efficiency, and problem-solving.
Desirable skills:
- Experience with leakage and water balance calculations.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting and audit processes.
- Understanding of Netbase and NetAlytics.
