We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at Bracknell Sewage Treatment Works. As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team you will follow robust planned maintenance, getting involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  • Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.
  • Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Working on various pumps and associated control gear, 3 phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD’s, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participating in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.

What you should bring to the role:

  • A time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Physical fitness; as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • A valid driving licence is essential.

  • Take ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with the team.
  • Be proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
  • Be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.

  • Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further ÂŁ8,000-ÂŁ10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
