Environmental Waste Resources Technician – Thames Water

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater services company and is looking to grow its new Environmental Compliance Team to help achieve the aim of sending zero waste to landfill.
This team sits within the Operational, Logistics and Incident Management area of the business and will give an opportunity to improve environmental, operational and financial efficiency for Thames Water.
What you will be doing
- Identification and implementation of innovative ways that deliver environmental and financial benefits.
- Carry out audits and reporting for “The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment, 2013” and “The Waste Batteries & Accumulators, 2009”.
- Providing advice and guidance to operational teams and other internal departments.
- Management of Thames Water’s internal free cycle operation “Green Tag”, which enables our operational teams to reuse and recycle items across the business.
- Classification of waste in line with the Gov.UK Technical Guidance WM3.
- Creation and implementation of waste management processes and procedures.
- Collation, analysis and presentation of waste data.
- Ensuring Health & Safety requirements are met within the Company and legal frameworks.
Location & hours
Didcot Regional Distribution Centre, Oxfordshire. Travel is required across our operational sites.
Monday to Friday, 36 hours a week.
Essential criteria
- An understanding and experience of waste and recycling management systems.
- Ideally, have or be working toward chartered status for a relevant institute.
- In-depth knowledge of waste legislation and policy in the UK.
- Familiar with relevant codes of practice and guidance documents applicable to the waste management industry, including the Definition of Waste: Code of Practice, Quality Protocols and Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice.
- Able to undertake waste classification in line with Gov.uk WM3 Guidance.
- Experience in undertaking audits and site inspections.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confident in the delivery of presentations.
- Collaborative skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work on several projects simultaneously whilst working to tight deadlines.
- Data management, analysis with excellent IT skills.
- Hold a valid and clean UK driving licence.
