We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to take on the important role of a Water System Performance Engineer.

You will be working in conjunction with the System Optimisation Analyst to manage access to the clean water hydraulic system.

The Water System Performance Engineer, will develop and implement a sustainable longer-term strategy to run a calm system (including the production sites and network) within regulatory requirements with high area reporting availability., + Working closely with the leakage team and numerous other internal stakeholders, taking the lead in managing technical issues during unplanned emergency events and supporting business change initiatives.

  • Guide the risk review process for emerging hydraulic system risks, devising smart contingency plans to mitigate the risk in the short term, while driving business cases for investment to be secured.

  • Monitor, investigate and resolve low-pressure issues (DG2), complaints and escalations as highlighted either directly by the customer or by alarming Critical Pressure Points, understanding areas and developing solutions to individual problems or emerging risks.

  • Be the technical system operations lead on unplanned emergency events to mitigate against adverse effects to the customer, Interruptions to supply, water quality and brand image.

  • Write and assess risk assessments for the work impacting the clean water hydraulic system, for example, the repair of leaks, the operation of assets on the network, production site outages and various other workstreams.

  • Formulating operating strategies in conjunction with the water control centre and highlighting instances of non-compliance, balancing the drivers of leakage reduction and customer pressures, while maintaining a calm operation of the system.

  • Evaluate and analyse operational information, understanding data integrity difficulties, to resolve complex problems. Design and update line schematics of water pressure zones and the hydraulic systems, to help management and investigation of issues.

  • Carry out Out-of-hours coordinator responsibilities on a technical standby roster.

  • Be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too.

  • Ideally to have a degree in a suitable technical discipline like Engineering with industry experience.

  • An in-depth knowledge of hydraulic principles.

  • Strong communication and management skills are required when negotiating or liaising with different stakeholders in this role.

  • Possess good analytical, problem-solving, negotiating skills and extreme willingness to learn and work hard to drive their career within Thames Water.

  • Full driving licence and own transport are desirable, due to required attendance at meetings spread across various Thames Water offices.

  • Base Location: Hybrid – Stroud Green

  • Working Pattern or hours: Monday-Friday 36 hours per week
