As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll take ownership of delivering projects or programmes of work within your geographical area, acting as the central point of accountability and leadership. You’ll ensure contractors deliver safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
You’ll also play a key role in continuously developing both the project team and supply chain—driving improvements in safety, customer satisfaction and commercial performance.
What you’ll be doing as an Assistant Project Manager:
- Deliver sustainable financial out‑performance against approved budgets through effective project and commercial management.
- Manage all contract matters to secure the best possible outcomes for Thames Water.
- Develop and deliver optimised project plans that meet all regulatory, statutory and internal targets.
- Deliver technical solutions that offer maximum value for money on both capital and whole‑life costs.
- Drive high performance from service providers, ensuring strong service levels and excellent value for money.
- Proactively manage project risks to reduce financial and delivery impacts.
- Administer contract changes and ensure clear and compliant contract management throughout.
- Ensure full compliance with quality systems so all results meet required standards.
- Build and maintain strong external stakeholder relationships, enhancing Thames Water’s reputation in the community.
- Lead and develop your team, fostering a culture of accountability, ambition and achievement.
- Champion innovation, leveraging ideas from the supply chain to create a culture of continuous improvement.
- Promote a proactive health, safety & environmental culture across your project and suppliers.
- Achieve best practice in safe, sustainable project delivery, from construction through to ongoing operation and maintenance.
This role is a Hybrid role based at Maple Lodge, London, you will be expected on site 3 days a week.
What you should bring to the role:
- HNC or higher in a relevant subject or significant experience in a similar role.
- Strong contractual awareness and understanding of Project Management principles.
- A proven track record of managing third‑party performance and delivering capital projects.
- Solid industry knowledge and commercial awareness.
- Financial capability to manage P&L, revenue expenditure and cash flow to meet financial targets.
- A balanced commercial approach—able to support business growth while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Proven experience in process improvement and implementation.
- Strong customer service ethic with measurable examples of improving satisfaction for both internal and external customers.
