Thames Water has embarked on our latest 5-year multi-billion investment plan for London, to protect our rivers and serve the needs of our customers and communities. Reporting directly into our Head of Region, you will be responsible for the capital programmes for the London wastewater regions of Thames Water which are comprised of sewage treatment works, our networks and pumping stations. You will own the strategy and then oversee the delivery of capital works on your sites, ensuring frequent project updates are communicated to our Operations Teams, and project interactions and dependencies are identified and planned for.

What you’ll be doing as Operations Capital Programme Manager:

  • Project liaison between Capital Delivery and Operations teams as well as all the directly managed work that we do.
  • Responsible for managing the directly managed capital works (reactive and planned), minor capital works and health and safety capital allocation budgets for the region.
  • Be responsible for managing the region’s risks from identification through to delivery of the project.
  • Work with System Planning to identify gaps between current, medium and long-term investment requirements and developing short to medium term investment proposals to present to the business for consideration.
  • For larger investment schemes you will represent our Operations Team and have the responsibility for the identification, development, acceptance and implementation of solutions which deliver the required benefits across the 5 year AMP.
  • You will work closely and collaboratively with key operations and business stakeholders to analyse risk and balance priorities across all regions in support of Wastewater investment across the 5 year AMP, reporting performance on the programme across wastewater against the agreed targets.
  • You will be accountable for the engagement, coordination, and support of operational input into the capital solutions associated with the AMP delivery programme.

Necessary requirements for the role – travel across region as required:

  • Experience successfully managing and delivering large asset infrastructure programmes.
  • Have experience of asset infrastructure management from a utilities industry, large-scale construction, engineering or similar operations industry.
  • Have broad business knowledge, be financially and commercially astute with demonstrable ability to manage to budget and to drive local accountability for cost control.
  • A track record in project & programme management and able to demonstrate ability to deliver project to meet both commercial and technical objectives.
  • Extensive operational understanding with a proven track record of delivering outcomes and budgets and working closely with capital delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with demonstrable ability to engage a wide range of internal (across business units) and external stakeholders.
  • A passion for health and safety and strong focus on how you work affects the environment.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and effectively communicate data and information to drive performance.
  • You will be an advocate for the environment with a demonstrable track record of compliance and environmental excellence.
  • You will be an Ambassador for Thames Water with demonstrable ability to proactively engage & influence stakeholders.
  • Self-starting, resilient and tenacious under pressure.

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:

  • Ideally, have experience of asset infrastructure management from the water sector.
  • Ideally, have a strong understanding of London and key stakeholders and influencers.
