We’re looking for Project Engineers to join our London Infrastructure team. Help us transform and modernise London’s wastewater networks. As a Project Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in protecting homes from sewer flooding, reducing river spills, and upgrading the essential infrastructure that keeps the capital moving.
You’ll work on a diverse portfolio — gravity sewers, rising mains, pumping stations, trunk sewer inspections, pollution reduction schemes, and the protection of assets crossing railways and bridges. Every day brings a new challenge and the chance to make a real impact on London’s environment and communities.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working alongside senior engineers, consultants, and contractors to progress multiple wastewater network projects from early solution optioneering and concept design through to contract award.
- Developing contractual project briefs and coordinating pre‑construction information.
- Identifying, analysing, and mitigating project risks, while exploring opportunities that strengthen scope and pricing.
- Reviewing surveys, drawings, and contractor proposals, highlighting issues to senior and lead engineers.
- Assuring detailed designs delivered by contractors and managing any design changes during construction.
- Supporting project teams through commissioning and asset handover.
- Carrying out design reviews to ensure safe, robust, and operationally sound engineering solutions.
- Working closely with senior engineers to act as key contact for CDM Designer or Principal Designer roles at early design stages, ensuring Thames Water meets its responsibilities as the client.
- Promoting and upholding our zero‑compromise approach to health and safety across all project activities.
Location & Working Hours:
Hybrid – Based at Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works with office and site visits required 2–3 times per week. 36 hours per week.
We’re looking for you to:
- Have an engineering background and hold an engineering qualification or degree.
- Be Incorporated or working towards Incorporated status with a relevant professional body.
- Have experience coordinating multiple stakeholders — internal teams, site staff, and external contractors.
- Bring experience with Highways, Local Councils, or Network Rail (advantageous but not essential).
- Understand wastewater infrastructure projects, including design and rehabilitation in urban or environmentally sensitive areas.
- Have experience in process‑industry project delivery (advantageous but not essential).
- Understand industrial processes relevant to your engineering discipline.
- Have solid knowledge of Health & Safety in construction, especially CDM Regulations 2015.
- Hold a full, clean driving licence and be able to travel to various sites for design reviews, contractor meetings, and safety audits.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll join a team at the heart of our delivery process — taking projects from initial design right through to construction and commissioning. You’ll collaborate with a wide range of people across Thames Water and our supply chain, gain hands‑on experience, and play a meaningful role in safeguarding London’s wastewater network for future generations.
Competitive salary from £41,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience. 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (plus, bank holidays) Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets. Generous Pension Scheme through AON. Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of your and your family’s health and well-being, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
