This role seeks a self‑motivated candidate to manage engineering projects end‑to‑end across Thames Water's operational sites and estate. The internal job title for this role is "Project Engineer" within the Capital Maintenance Project Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical and ICA projects, typically valued between ÂŁ100,000 and ÂŁ1 million each.
- Be individually responsible for multiple live projects at once, with additional projects in the scoping and tendering phase.
- Develop innovative and modern solutions to operational problems, making sites more efficient and delivering value for money.
- Work with operations teams and contractors to scope, define and cost solutions that are cost‑effective and low‑risk.
- Oversee the implementation of a zero‑compromise health and safety policy, including undertaking monthly audits.
- Ensure construction is in line with in‑house policies, industry standards and fully compliant with CDM regulations.
- Collaborate with delivery partners and contractors to guarantee schemes are delivered on time.
- Maintain compliance with Asset Standards, British and International Standards and professional codes of conduct.
- Perform financial forecasting for all live projects and report on the value of work done.
- Draft, vet and approve pre‑construction information, project programmes, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and construction phase plans (CPP).
- Supervise commissioning, training and handover to operations teams.
- Ensure completion documents—test certificates, operation and maintenance manuals, health and safety files and as‑constructed drawings—are available and handed over.
Location and Travel
Your base location will be Bracknell. The role requires travel to Basingstoke, Fleet and Farnborough up to five days a week, as well as to other sites depending on project requirements. A full driving licence, personal vehicle and insurance are required; a monthly car allowance will be paid.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Qualifications
- Background in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) is preferred.
- Formal qualifications such as BTEC/HND or equivalent discipline are strongly encouraged.
- Knowledge of Clean Water Processing and/or Wastewater treatment is desirable.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously, including internal colleagues, site employees and external contractors.
- Capacity to work with minimal supervision, be self‑motivated and use initiative to deliver high‑quality work.
- Understanding of Health and Safety standards, particularly CDM; additional training will be provided.

Compensation and Benefits
- Offering up to ÂŁ60,000 per annum, depending on experience and skills, plus a ÂŁ4,500 car allowance.
