The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime. The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIOs) who work within regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities to mitigate risks and disrupt offenders.
This role involves working in and with prisons in the South East, with travel across Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and Thames Valley. The successful candidate will develop and maintain effective relationships with Counter Terrorism Units and other partner agencies involved in investigations related to National Security across the South East Region.
To succeed, you must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, be able to gather and record information accurately, and handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality. Candidates should have completed the Operational Partnership Team “Working in Prisons National Course” and the National Prison Debriefing course or be willing to undertake training. We value professional development, and this role offers opportunities for continuous learning.
You should be flexible with working hours based on operational needs and willing to work away from home occasionally. A full UK Driving Licence is essential. Due to the nature of the work, security vetting at SC level is required, including security checks. Applicants must be British nationals, have resided in the UK for the past five years, and pass all vetting requirements. Exemptions may apply for certain overseas or diplomatic service roles.
