Location is Newbury or Reading. Central CID, Berkshire West are seeking to recruit a PIP2 Investigator to investigate a variety of serious and complex crimes and incidents. We are seeking someone with experience of CID investigations or equivalent and applicants who are already PIP1 or PIP2 accredited. Your development will mirror that of a Detective Constable. A PIP2 investigator can expect to receive the same training as a Detective Constable with the expectation that they lead the investigation of Serious & Complex Crime. PIP2 Investigators hold designated powers to enable them to conduct searches and interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake evidence collection accurately and efficiently within an investigatory process, to support a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff.
  • Record witness accounts in the form of a statement which meets the required evidential and quality standards to comply with CPS guidelines.
  • Undertake tasks as directed by an OIC or supervisor in line with level of training and designation which includes house to house enquiries, the scoping, seizing and viewing of media footage and exhibit handling.
  • Engage in the management of suspects where use of force is not anticipated, e.g. accompanying officers on risk-assessed compliant arrest attempts or interviewing compliant prisoners in custody.
  • Carry a workload of PIP2-level (i.e. serious and complex) crimes and crime-related incidents, including unexpected deaths.
  • Review material in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Investigation Act (CPIA) to identify further lines of enquiry or relevant material where directed by the OIC or the Disclosure Officer.
  • View CCTV and/or other media footage as circumstances dictate, which will include copying relevant footage, obtaining evidence from mobile phones and identifying further investigative opportunities.
  • Attend court to give specific evidence when required, including evidence of exhibits seizure/handling, statement taking and to support the investigation/prosecution team.

Requirements

  • Must have the capability to travel to different locations across a Local Police Area or geographical hub and undertake all assignments in a timely manner.
  • Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times.
  • A full UK driving licence is considered essential.
