As the Director of Digital Transformation you will provide strategic leadership for the development and delivery of a comprehensive digital strategy across both Forces, acting as the principal digital lead and ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and national policing direction. The post-holder is responsible for overseeing the implementation and long‑term adoption of digital capabilities, planning and coordinating delivery across a five‑year horizon, and managing a substantial programme budget of approximately £42m. The role demands an innovative and adaptive approach to ensure the strategy reflects emerging technologies, evolving ethical considerations—such as those relating to artificial intelligence—and the changing operational needs of both Forces. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external partners, and national policing bodies, the post-holder ensures that digital transformation is coherently shaped, well‑governed, and effectively embedded across the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the development and delivery of a comprehensive digital strategy across both Forces.
  • Represent the Forces at local, regional, and national levels within a complex multi‑agency environment, championing the digital agenda in all strategic decision‑making.
  • Oversee the implementation and long‑term adoption of digital capabilities, coordinating delivery across a five‑year horizon.
  • Manage a substantial programme budget of approximately £42m.
  • Ensure the strategy reflects emerging technologies, evolving ethical considerations (e.g., AI ethics), and changing operational needs of both Forces.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and national policing bodies to shape, govern, and embed digital transformation.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of leading strategic digital transformation within complex organisations.
  • Extensive and recent experience leading a department or departments, with demonstrable success in improving efficiency and effectiveness through technological change and adoption, alongside fundamental changes in business process, frameworks, and ways of working.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence at executive level with key stakeholders and partners outside the organisation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to translate complex, technical topics into understandable language for diverse stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, AI ethics, cybersecurity, cloud, automation, data integration, governance and analytics concepts.
  • Ability to define and deliver digital strategies, turning vision into actionable roadmaps and plans.

Salary £140,000 - £143,000 per annum, dependent on skills
