Investigation Support – Assessment and Investigation Unit (AIU)

Thames Valley Police (TVP) invites applications for the Investigation Support – Assessment and Investigation Unit (AIU) role. The position is based in Reading (with relocation to a new location in Reading in October 2025).

Overview

Role purpose: You will provide an effective and efficient support function within a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff, including administrative tasks, evidence collection and recording tasks on Niche RMS.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake evidence collection accurately and efficiently within an investigatory process to support a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff
  • Record witness accounts in the form of a statement that meets required evidential and quality standards to comply with CPS guidelines
  • Undertake tasks as directed by an OIC or supervisor, including house-to-house enquiries, scoping, seizing and viewing of media footage and exhibit handling
  • Review material in accordance with the CPIA to identify further lines of enquiry or relevant material where directed by the OIC or Disclosure Officer
  • View CCTV and other media footage, copy relevant footage, obtain evidence from mobile phones and identify further investigative opportunities
  • Attend court to give specific evidence when required, including evidence of exhibits seizure/handling and statement taking
  • Assist OICs and supervisors to work with partner and support agencies in response to victim updates, information sharing, risk assessments and collation of evidence

Skills and Qualifications

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office; confident at intermediate level with aptitude to learn new systems/TVP platforms
  • Good standard of education with GCSEs (Grade 9–1 / A–C) or equivalent in English
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to organise, plan, manage and prioritise workloads

Requirements

  • Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake assignments in a timely manner
  • Flexibility to work unsocial hours; public transport may not always be available; a full UK driving license is essential

Benefits and Additional Information
