Applications are invited from PIP2 qualified investigators for the role of PSD Investigator. This is an exciting role where you will have a key part in maintaining public confidence in policing and upholding the high standards expected of the Police Service. You will be involved in investigating public complaints, conducting investigations, criminal investigations involving officers and staff, and death and serious injury investigations.
Responsibilities
- Investigate allocated complaints or misconduct, preserve evidence and prepare investigation files and reports.
- Interview and take statements from witnesses; interview officers and police staff who are the subject of allegations to obtain evidence and accounts of actions.
- Provide on‐call cover as part of a team of Investigating Officers to the force.
- Present cases and represent the appropriate authority at Misconduct Meetings and may be required to give evidence in court.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders and develop and deliver preventative initiatives.
Requirements / Skills
- Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively both verbally and in writing, at all levels; ability to challenge appropriately and achieve a satisfactory outcome with all stakeholders.
- Good assessment and analytical skills coupled with effective decision making.
- Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision and as part of a team of investigators; flexible to meet the demands of the department and support colleagues.
- Experience of using databases, conducting audits and preparing files; ability to understand and interpret complex information or legislation.
- Personal resilience and acting with integrity; take ownership of ongoing professional development to maintain and update skills.
- Willingness to travel on enquiries; full UK driving licence considered essential.
