The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Newport office. You’ll play a key role across pre-construction and live delivery, controlling costs, and owning the commercial lifecycle from contract review through to final account. This is a pivotal position for someone who knows reinforced concrete (RC) frames and structures inside out and enjoys working closely with operational teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Tendering & Estimating
- Liaise with Pre-Construction and Construction teams to build and review competitive tenders.
- Evaluate tender information and develop robust bid/procurement strategies.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BQs) and take-offs; produce clear pricing and allowances.
- Procurement & Commercial Control
- Obtain quotes and manage procurement of materials, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Prepare and deliver Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) to senior management.
- Lead project cost control from contract award through to final account.
- Contracts & Compliance
- Work confidently with NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Address contractual and legal matters proactively during project delivery.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain regular client liaison to protect margins and secure future work.
- Collaborate effectively with planners, engineers, and site teams to drive outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years’ experience as a QS in construction, with strong exposure to RC frames and Civils structures.
- Proven estimating capability and hands-on commercial management on contractor-side projects.
- A proactive person who acts pre-emptively to manage risk and opportunity.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and reporting skills (CVR, forecasting, change control).
- Clear written and verbal communication; organized and methodical approach.
- Positive, collaborative attitude aligned to safe, efficient delivery.
