We are currently recruiting for a part-time (22.5 hours per week), regular Industrial Sewer to fill an upcoming vacancy in Adapted Technology Service (ATS). The successful candidate will be part of a creative and highly skilled team which designs and builds supportive custom seating surfaces for children and youth who have a physical disability. The designated office for this position is London. This position is expected to start in June 2026.
Responsibilities
- Co-design the covering for a seating system or assistive device with other technicians and/or therapists.
- Design and create upholstered seat covers (including contoured surfaces) and other fabric based assistive devices in order to meet the clinical needs of the client.
- Remove and mount seating to and from wheeled base.
- Maintain machinery needed for upholstery and order equipment as needed.
- Monitor inventory of fabrics and other materials and order as needed.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and stay current with available products in the industry.
- Participate in team discussions on clinical technical issues and upholstery (covering) solutions.
- In collaboration with other workshop technicians, fabricate or finish components of seating systems, or other assistive devices as needed. This could include gluing, operation of drill press, sander, band saw/chop saw, or industrial sewing machines, as well as pattern making and applying finishes.
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma with a focus in trades.
- Courses or education in upholstery, sewing or dress making/design is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in upholstering contoured/complex surfaces using foams and/or soft materials.
- Keen attention to detail and able to adjust product based on feedback.
- A strong customer service and family-centered focus.
- Experience working with children and/or persons with a disability is considered an asset.
- Ability to be flexible and dynamic, responding to needs from multiple team members.
- Experience with prioritizing, meeting deadlines, and balancing a number of tasks.
- Demonstrated ability working in a team environment, including effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency is required (e.g. ability to use email system and calendar, simple database work and website searches).
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.

Salary Range: $27.91 - $30.21/hour
