The role of the Senior Dry Dock Marine Engineer is to work alongside and supervise a team of engineers in delivering high-quality workmanship in a safe, controlled way. They will ensure quality and compliance at task level, effectively communicate technical information, and champion professional engineering values.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Level 3 qualification as part of an approved apprenticeship scheme.
- Marine engineering experience on aluminium fast craft.
- Previous refit / overhaul experience.
- Familiarity with diesel engines, water jet and conventional propeller / shaft drives.
- Familiarity with generators and general ship electrical systems including 415v 3ph.
- Relevant experience of working in heavy industrial environments including experience completing alignments of marine propulsion systems.
- Relevant experience of working in high pressure environments whilst maintaining high levels of safety and good maintenance practices (returning boats to service quickly and reliably).
- Effective communicator and able to provide a lead by example approach in a supervisory role.
- Able to work flexibly as the operation demands.
- Team player who enjoys working in a high achieving environment.
- Awareness of budget and expenditure constraints and the importance of on time, on budget project completion.
- Technical supervisory experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate effectively, present and discuss proposals and feedback on work packages.
- Have the personal and social skills to foster productive working relationships.
- Act as role model and champion of our company values, assisting the operation to integrate them into local processes and literature.
- Assist in developing and maintaining effective teamwork across our diverse business.
- Provide support to the Dry Dock Manager at Thames Clippers owned Dry Dock facilities to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
- Work with the Dry Dock Manager to ensure all systems and paperwork are auditable, compliant with Thames Clippers internal procedures and sufficient to satisfy regulatory compliance with the relevant governing bodies.
- Ensure all work undertaken on vessels either planned or unplanned is compliant with necessary legislation and guidelines.
- Coordinate engineering activities on site to ensure the most effective and efficient completion of works.
- Assist the Dry Dock Manager to drive technical development of the facilities and safety systems to ensure the most effective and efficient operation.
- Work with the Dry Dock Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, and any Contractors to ensure vessels complete their annual dry-docking activities in a safe, effective, and professional manner.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations, promoting and ensuring standards are upheld throughout the facility.
- Provide feedback to the Dry Dock Manager Heavy Maintenance and Development Projects Manager and where appropriate direct to the Head of Engineering & Vessel Appearance on common or repetitive issues found with vessels at dry dock to assist and promote improvements to Planned Maintenance and modifications to systems to promote continuous improvement in reliability across the fleet.
- When conducting works in non-Thames Clippers facilities, ensure safety systems are compliant with company requirements and apply localized systems as required.
