In this role, you will lead and guide a team of technicians responsible for routine maintenance and defect rectification across our diverse fleet of marine vessels. With our organisational commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040, the successful candidate will bring the expertise and initiative needed to support the modernisation of the fleet and develop the team in line with emerging technologies and operational demands.

A little bit about us: The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames, home to the UK’s biggest port and busiest inland waterway. The river is set to play a key role in the UK’s move towards a Net Zero economy and in transforming urban logistics too. The opportunities for the future are captured in the updated Thames Vision 2050, which has themes of Trading Thames, Destination Thames and Natural Thames. The priorities for action are safety, Net Zero transition, resilience, technological changes, access and inclusion. This is an exciting opportunity to join the PLA at a time of growth and transformation, with the Vision setting a clear path for future development. This includes major asset investments for the river.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A HNC in a relevant discipline and with 5 years of “hands‑on” experience, to establish a detailed understanding of engineering, materials and electrical concepts and principles.
  • A background of effective, pragmatic, and direct management of a similar team, with broad experience and sound knowledge of marine and general engineering practice.
  • A proficient level of computer literacy including the use of planned maintenance systems.
  • A forward‑thinker who encourages their team to strive for success.

In return, we offer a competitive benefits package:

  • 28 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays)
  • Medical Cash Plan (Westfield Health)
  • Onsite parking with electric charging
  • Access to Occupational Health, Mindfulness, Counselling and Physiotherapy
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
