Thames 360 is recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant on behalf of our client.
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and methodical Laboratory Assistant to provide practical support within the laboratory team. Working closely with the Chemist (and supporting the Quality function), you will help prepare samples, maintain equipment, handle chemicals safely and keep the laboratory running smoothly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work in a structured environment and is keen to develop laboratory skills. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory equipment, glassware and chemicals for routine analysis
- Assist with the preparation of plating solution samples for testing
- Carry out routine measurements (pH, conductivity and solution temperatures) under supervision
- Assist with titration testing once fully trained and competent
- Clean, maintain and organise laboratory equipment and work areas
- Prepare replacement chemical solutions following approved work instructions
- Support scheduled tank maintenance, cleaning, refilling and solution changes
- Label, store and handle chemicals in accordance with COSHH assessments and SDS
- Maintain laboratory consumables and chemical stocks, reporting shortages promptly
- Receive, check and store incoming chemical deliveries
- Record laboratory results accurately and assist with calibration records
- Dispose of chemical waste safely
- Maintain excellent laboratory housekeeping
- Support audits by preparing documentation
- Work closely with the Chemist, Production and Quality teams
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science
- Basic laboratory or manufacturing knowledge
- Good Microsoft Office skills
Desirable
- Previous laboratory or quality experience
- Experience working with chemicals
- Aware of ISO 9001 / AS9100 / NADCAP
- Forklift licence
Training
Full training will be provided in chemical handling, COSHH, laboratory Health & Safety, use of analytical equipment, sample preparation, controlled documentation, waste disposal and internal quality procedures.
