Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Cheadle, United Kingdom
Thales in Stockport provides armed forces customers with operational advantage at every decisive moment. Our platforms extend across the battlespace including Above and Sonar, Electronic Combat, and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems.
This is a full‑time role offered at 37 hours over 4 days (Mon – Thurs).
Our Opportunity
To contribute to the definition, implementation, and maintenance of the Industrial Strategy for existing products and new products through day‑to‑day technical support to the onsite industrial footprint. You will play a key role within the wider Industrial footprint for key products, driving Design for Manufacture behaviours within Engineering and Projects, and supporting Procurement as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Industry to ensure robust supply chain deliveries.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Contribute to the Manufacturing engineering phase and the successful introduction into production of new and legacy products within a defined production centre/area.
- Work with Engineering teams through the Design, Development and Qualification phase to review Product Defining Data (PDD) and ensure suitability for manufacture. Analyse and initiate changes to PDD throughout the design and product lifecycle.
- Prepare all data for and run Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) on behalf of industry while understanding HSE regulations.
- Identify opportunities for manufacturing equipment capital purchases with financial assessment (Cost‑Benefit Analysis & ROI) to drive business competitiveness and meet cost targets.
- Assess the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of products by reviewing product maturity with project teams to minimise manufacturing risks.
- Define, set up, prepare and optimise manufacturing processes and tooling for a defined area or product line, agreeing layout and infrastructure for a product line or manufacturing area.
About You
You will have proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, ideally from an Electro‑Mechanical assembly/fabrication background. Industrial experience of implementing new technologies, including change management and impact analysis, is required.
- Elaborates and implements tests & control plans for manufacturing equipment.
- Awareness and use of continuous improvement techniques and implementation of lean manufacturing.
- Experience of manufacturing systems.
- Understanding/awareness of connected industrial concepts.
- Strong communication skills and experience training team members.
