Primary Purpose of the Role:
As a Field Services Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment, setting to work and in service support principally of Sonar and Electronic Warfare systems deployed on Royal Navy and export customers Ships / Submarines. The role is based at HMNB Clyde, Helensburgh, but the nature of supporting the RN can mean a requirement to travel, sometimes at short notice โ both across the UK and occasionally overseas โ which the successful candidate would be expected to support.

- Accountable through the Field Services Manager to the Head of Field Services Engineering
- Lead Field Services Engineer - ASW
- Other Field Service Managers and teams across the UK
- Other Field Services Engineers in your team
- Project teams
- Programme Managers
- Service Delivery Managers
- Project Planners
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms in Defect Rectification:
- Act as primary on-site interface between Thales UK and RN Ships Staff
- Conduct front-line support including fault diagnosis and testing both in harbour within UK / foreign countries and acceptance trials at sea.
- Provide On-Call telephone support to our customers (Once at a suitable level of knowledge), both inside and outside normal working hours
- Conduct local training as required of other Thales engineers and also RN staff both alongside and at sea.
- Write site visit reports
- Conduct Pre-Upkeep Maintenance Assessment (PUMA) inspections.
- Conduct scheduled maintenance activities
- Escalate engineering issues to the Lead Field Services Engineer โ ASW, Field Services Manager or Service Delivery Manager as required.
- Write post maintenance reports
- Weekly reports to the Lead Field Engineer - ASW/Field Services Manager/Service Delivery Manager as required
- Risk Assessments.
- COSHH Assessments.
- Safe systems of work.
Key performance Indicators against Responsibilities and Tasks:
- This role and the Field Service Engineering Team is continually monitored for performance and some of the following Key performance indicators (KPIโs) will be used:
- Quality of work produced against agreed standards.
- Delivery to timescales.
- Delivery to budget.
- Performance against Thales key values.
- Performance against mandatory training and the development of team competence in Thales Sonar and Electronic Warfare Systems.
Expected Competence Level:
- Demonstrable experience in conducting installations and or support engineering preferably in a maritime environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of complex engineering systems (hydraulic, mechanical, electrical)
- Able to use a range of IT tools.
- Able to use range of generic test equipment
Experience:
- Ideally you will have a track record of performing in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably dealing with Complex Systems (Electrical, Electronic and Hydraulic).
- You will have hands-on experience of dealing with technical issues, with demonstrable capability of resolving technical issues methodically.
- You will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels in spoken and written English.
- Your experience will demonstrate your high level of self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure are vital.

Qualifications, Certification and Requirements:
- Essential: Full UK car driving licence.
- Needs to hold or be able to achieve SC Clearance.
- Must be within commuting distance of HMNB Clyde (Helensburgh, G84 8HL).
- Desirable: HNC in a relevant subject or equivalent.
- Have attained or be working towards an appropriate professional status or equivalent.
- Confined Spaces (Medium Risk)
This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance.
