Thales are looking to hire an M & E Engineer / Simulator Engineer to maintain, service & support the A400M Synthetic Training Equipment (STE) and classroom equipment. Working alongside 9 professional engineers operating a 3-shift rota, ensuring all STE (including 2 Full Flight Simulators, a Cargo Hold Trainer and other training devices) are available for use and in excellent working order to achieve the contract requirements.

Location – RAF Brize Norton

Working hours – rolling 3-week shift patterns of Early – (06:00am – 14:00pm), Nights (22:00pm – 06:00am) and Lates – (14:00pm – 22:00pm)

What will you deliver?

  • Maintain and refresh Planned Maintenance Programmes (PMP’s) for the STE and Classroom equipment in accordance with STE supplied documentation.
  • Follow procedures and working instructions to conduct all preventative maintenance activities in accordance with the PMP’s for the STE & classroom equipment and to carry out any corrective fault rectifications to ensure the training equipment is contractually available for use.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities / fault repairs are recorded and are trackable, including corrective actions to rectify Service Failures and or Facility Deficiencies.
  • Carry out audits and be accountable for the continued serviceability of tools, parts & consumables, ensuring that all parts/spares are recorded and tracked using inventory management software.
  • Complete Hardware and Software updates and upgrades along with weekly housekeeping to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Keep all STE, classrooms and classroom equipment in a clean & presentable manner.
  • Ensure support is provided to the RAF in performing the annual validation checks of the STE, including running 100% of the Qualification Test Guide per year.
  • Complete instructor operating station and ownership database updates as per Authority supplied digital aeronautical flight information files.
  • Ensure software backups, recovery processes, cloning and storage of Software are carried out in accordance with the A400M contract.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the site facility building.
  • Be able to conduct all tasks within the site appropriate Health & Safety guidelines.

Who are we looking for?

  • An individual with an engineering mindset.
  • Previous Simulator Engineering experience would be great but not essential as all training and development can be given.
  • Strong IT skills – IT Networking experience and able to work within Microsoft office environments.
  • Keen fault-finding skills & a high attention to detail.
  • Able to read system drawings to trace faults and aid with malfunction corrections.
  • Good understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Aircraft knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.

UK Eyes Only Security Clearance:

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a UK National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
