Primary purpose of the role:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Academy Engineer Trainer, to join the IAS UK Academy on a two year secondment. The primary purpose of the role is to develop, design and deliver training to upskill engineers across IAS, prioritising the biggest skill gaps and fundamental training to improve our engineers speed to competency within their roles. The successful candidate will lead the training and development pathways for engineering, linking to learning models such as 70 20 10 and contribute to the IAS Strategic Capability Plans without day-to-day guidance or supervision, in a professional manner and in accordance with the UK-SPEC, standards and Thales (Chorus II) and internal documentation processes. This role will be pivotal to the success of developing SQEP in a timely manner and closing critical skill gaps within engineering, increasing competency across the IAS engineering job functions.
Principal Relationships:
The jobholder will report to the Academy Manager. The jobholder is required to develop and engage IAS Engineering communities, and build key relationships to obtain buy-in and cooperation in order to achieve objectives and fulfil responsibilities. Interfaces and communication shall be with all stakeholders and include, but are not limited to:
- Academy Management Team
- Heads of Function across all Engineering disciplines
- Head of Technical Publications and Product Training
- Programme Managers
- Engineering Functions
- Technical Directorate
- SCP lead
- UK TLC team
- Engineering Function Academy Managers

Day to day you will:
- Create, maintain and manage Learning Management System (LMS) content.
- Lead and deliver the training and development activities for the engineering functions and identify training pathways that support the skills development required by the HoF.
- Develop training programme to improve the speed to competency for new engineers to support the business needs.
- Consistently demonstrate the value of a range of Learning and Development techniques.
- Work with end user to articulate the training programme deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement, recommending changes to training affected by processes and procedures and follow through with required updates.
- Provide training decision outputs within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
- Analysis of trending training data to manage learning and recommend changes required to improve learning outcomes for the end users.
- Analyse, design and deliver training to UK MOD JSP822 standards to ensure the Company training outputs remain compliant.
- Set targets for and manage own development with line manager.
- Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices.
- Align with UK Engineering competency model, contribute to Engineering learning pathways for function and domain working closely with the UK learning and support team.
- Analysis of the Skills Dashboard to identify risks in relation to upskilling and skills retention.
- Participate in ongoing Academy activities such as onboarding, induction and training.
Skills and Experience:
- Training analysis, development, design, implementation and evaluation of learning content
- Excellent standard of written and spoken English
- Engineering job functions and product knowledge/experience
- Articulate and able to communicate at all levels of the organisation
- Organisation and problem solving skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of our systems and processes including Chorus 2.0 DDQS
- Stakeholder Management
- Demonstrable success in provisioning and delivering training programmes including planning and preparing learning programmes for groups and individuals
- Assessing the outcomes of learning and learners achievement
- Strong proficiency within standard Microsoft office packages/Authoring tools
