Senior Project Manager – LR09
Based in Templecombe or Cheadle – this is a hybrid role with Travel to Templecombe or Cheadle

Our Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join the Towed Array Product group within Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) providing technology to enhance and secure the future of our world leading Sonar Capability to UK and International Navies.
You will be responsible for the overall product project and work-package delivery and will be the overall person in charge for delivery of key aspects and objectives to the satisfaction of internal stakeholders within Thales.
You will be responsible for leading the project aspects within the Towed Array Product organisation to ensure successful delivery and provide assurance that best practice is being applied throughout the whole lifecycle. You will use your project management knowledge to ensure that the capability strengths and weaknesses are identified and managed and that rigour is given to change control, commercial awareness and stakeholder management of both the internal and external customers.
You will gain significant exposure across the business where you will manage the Project Team executing the reinvigoration of the design baseline and productivity of a significant product line for UWS. You will also be involved in providing coaching and direct support to less experienced project managers.
The Towed Array product is of significant financial and strategic value to Thales UK and demand for the product is rapidly increasing over the short to medium-term.
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
About You
You will have an extensive track-record of successfully delivering complex projects in a defence environment together with experience working in a complex, multidisciplinary and multi-site matrix organisation, with a strong technical understanding of engineering. Together with:
- Strong, professional project management skills and the ability to directly and successfully manage a project team within cost, schedule and quality.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to deal with customers, partners, suppliers and other parts of the business
- Good understanding of how the contract and project align to the Business MRP system to ensure alignment of deliveries to meet contractual milestones
- A good understanding of generic processes and techniques used to schedule project activities (for example; WBS, OBS, milestones, dependencies, EVM)
- Comprehensive experience and understanding of the Project Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management).
- Comprehensive experience and knowledge of the project life cycle for complex projects through delivery of Development, Implementation, Closure and Support activity.
