Where possible, we support a working pattern that suits your lifestyle and helps you reach your ambitions.**Product Safety Engineer****Location: Crawley****Hybrid working (Minimum 3 days at office)**The Safety Engineering team are responsible for the safety of the products and project solutions developed and deployed by the business line and compliance to safety principles, industry specific standards and best practices for the development of safety-critical systems.We are looking for new Safety Engineers to join our UK team at our Crawley sites. The Safety Engineer provides technical safety input to the project/product team, is responsible for developing and execution of safety engineering activities in accordance with the company’s process, applicable industry standards, best practices and sharing expert knowledge.As a safety engineer working within Flight Avionics, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of engineers focused on the development, delivery and support of products and programmes to a wide variety of customers in the aerospace sector; covering both the Civil and Military domains. This includes:* The development of our next generation Mission Management Systems or Secure Information System for military helicopter platforms* The continuing support and sustainment of our in-service products, including Avionics Mission Systems, Secure Intercom Systems.Key tasks/Responsibilities:* Supporting Project Design Authorities by delivering complex safety programmes associated with a variety of Thales products, systems and services.* Applying and leveraging your knowledge of Systems Safety Engineering to complex systems.* Undertaking Systems Safety activities and assessment to influence design.* Generating or conducting updates to safety cases and other key safety artefacts.* Working in multidisciplinary project/product teams to identify and manage hazards and risks.* Working with Bid teams to develop estimates and safety strategies for future business ventures.**About You*** You will be able to work across a range of activities at various stages of the systems engineering lifecycle.* You will thrive on doing something different every day and be comfortable with ambiguity.* You will have a strong desire to learn new things.* You will be a good communicator at all levels, able to understand and decompose complexity and present it in simple terms.**Here’s What You’ll Need*** A degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area.* Experience of Systems Safety Engineering activities in a complex, safety focussed and regulated organisation, such as rail, aerospace, nuclear or oil & gas.* Experience of preparing complex Safety Cases and familiar with ALARP principles and arguments.* Demonstrable experience of undertaking Systems Safety activities including System Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Common Cause Failure Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Hazard Logs and System Hazard Analysis Reports.* Ability to work collaboratively in an engineering development environment, ensuring Systems Safety compliance is achieved throughout the project life cycle.* Experience in the application of standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-051, ARP4761, DO178, DO254 etc.* Professional qualification or working towards professional qualification (e.g. IEng/CEng)**Security Clearance statement:**Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions.
