Primary Purpose of the Role

The purpose of a Supportability Engineer is to:

  • Deliver on supportability commitments for a suite of Products across various programmes:
  • Working with the Programme Managers to optimise the work required to meet the needs of the Customer and the available budget.
  • To carry out assigned work to the agreed budget, schedule and technical requirements.
  • Teaming with ILS SMEs to achieve contract milestones
  • Work with Design Engineers and Programme Management to leverage opportunities, manage risks and optimise financial performance and Through-Life cost of ownership.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work as an experienced supportability / engineering team member to take responsibility for assigned work packages. Work packages can encompass;
    • Core supportability tasks centred on Reliability, Maintainability, Availability, LSAR, DRACAS & spares modelling.
    • Wider TLSE requirements and team relationships – built via engaging specialists from other logistic support elements within the TLSE environment for either guidance or technical input (for example, Obsolescence, Asset Management, Repairs, Technical Publications and Training).
    • As well as supportability modelling as per above, analyses will be presented at relevant project reviews (PDR or CDR) and written into specific documentation (ARM Case or Supportability Case) or over-arching documentation (Integrated Support Plan) for artefact deliveries both internally and externally.
  • Progress assigned supportability engineering activities & manage work package.
    • Provide Work Package management inputs to programme management as required.
    • Provide regular updates to and/or attend regular status reporting with line manager.
  • Make supportability / engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
  • Support programmes in matters of technical understanding and support in areas of own expertise.
  • As an established practitioner to provide help & guidance to other TLSE team members when required.
  • Contribute to relevant Thales Support Engineering Working Groups.
  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, task estimation, risk management, quality and HSE.
  • Set targets for and manage own development with line manager.
  • Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own and team practices.
  • Contribute to the development & continuation of successful local supply chain relationships.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree level education – in relevant engineering, science or technology Degree or equivalent experience is desirable Or HND qualified with significant engineering experience.
  • Typically experienced in at least one engineering domain, with knowledge of associated and contributory domains.
  • Good working experiences in preferably more than two phases of the lifecycle with sufficient experience of the total engineering lifecycle to enable a good understanding of adjacent lifecycle phases and through life engineering issues.
    • Logistic Support Analysis (MIL-STD-1388 2B, Raytheon Eagle LSAR)
    • Reliability, Maintainability and Testability Studies (MIL-STD-217F, ANSI VITA, FIDES)
    • FMECAs (MIL-STD-1629A)
    • Through-Life Cost and spares modelling (Systecon OPUS10, SIMLOX,CATLOX)
    • Initial Provisioning
    • DRACAS (JIRA, Favoweb)
  • Ability to interrogate & decipher the logistics and related service requirements and be able to tailor, optimise and articulate solutions.
  • Experience of technical and commercial contact with customers, partners and suppliers.
