An opportunity has arisen for the role of Product Safety Engineer in the Thales UK Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) organisation. This role will directly contribute to the on-going development of the Land, Naval and Air products and systems. The role holder will have suitable qualifications, relevant experience in engineering design/delivery and its lifecycle and be able to demonstrate appropriate behaviours and skills. The role will be responsible for providing support to the Safety and Technical authorities, the safety team and the wider organisation. This role may also involve some reliability, environmental and materials analysis when required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The primary purpose of this role is to identify to the Safety Authority any concerns regarding the safety of a product, or the application of policies and processes.
Role Responsibilities:
  • To generate safety artefacts required to support the product safety argument, such as Safety & Environmental Management Plans, Hazard Logs and Safety & Environmental Case Reports.
  • To facilitate appropriate hazard/risk identification including functional failure analysis, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, Fault & Event Tree Analysis.
  • To develop product safety requirements.
  • To support Project Design Authorities in achieving compliance with Legislation, Regulations and Standards applicable to the product(s).
  • To assist in generating reasonable bid estimates.
  • To peer review product safety-related artefacts generated by others in the team.
  • Ability to manage multiple safety programmes, including scheduling and interacting with stakeholders.
  • To support the development of Product Safety training material and to deliver the training.
Skills & Behaviours:
  • Experience in the implementation and delivery of Product and System Safety Engineering activities is highly desirable.
  • Ability to build positive and effective relationships with stakeholders, including team members and customers.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
