Overview

In this role you will lead the mechanical engineering effort for the Towed Array Portfolio within Under Water Systems. You will guide the mechanical team, support design authorities, and resolve build issues while shaping future product capability. You will coordinate architecture with product and mechanical teams, mentor colleagues, and contribute to subsea design tasks. The role combines hands-on design with cross-functional collaboration to deliver robust underwater sensing solutions for naval customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the mechanical team for the Towed Array Portfolio
  • Support PDA and PLA in technical capacity and drive issue resolution
  • Coordinate product definitions and trade-off assessments (cost, customer needs, tech options)
  • Align product and mechanical architectures within the Towed Array portfolio
  • Provide trials, integration support, and monitor technological developments
  • Mentor colleagues and support general engineering tasks as required
  • Engage with hardware disciplines to meet customer requirements
  • Monitor commitments to time, cost and quality at project level

Key requirements

  • Strong experience in Mechanical Design roles
  • Proficiency in CREO and PDMLink
  • 3D CAD system experience
  • Understanding of DEF STAN, ISO standards
  • Electronics packaging and cabling design
  • Experience with ship/submarine platforms and lifting equipment
  • Ability to create manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Configuration management tooling knowledge
  • Autonomous work style with leadership and problem-solving ability
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and develop others
  • Proactive and can-do mindset
  • Mechanical Engineering software (CREO, PDMLink)
  • 3D CAD
  • Engineering development lifecycle understanding
