An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join an established housebuilder, supporting the delivery of high-quality residential developments across the West Midlands.
Working closely with the Technical and wider project teams, you will play a key role in developing practical, cost-effective engineering solutions from initial design through to construction. You will coordinate with external consultants, local authorities and statutory bodies to ensure engineering designs meet technical requirements, planning conditions and relevant standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with residential development experience who enjoys problem-solving, coordinating technical information and seeing projects progress from concept through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review and coordinate civil engineering designs for residential developments.
- Coordinate infrastructure design, including roads, drainage, levels, earthworks and utilities.
- Liaise with external civil engineering consultants, architects, local authorities, water companies and other statutory bodies.
- Support the delivery of highway and drainage approvals, including Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 agreements, where applicable.
- Review technical drawings, engineering reports and specifications to ensure compliance with planning conditions, building regulations and relevant design standards.
- Identify and resolve engineering challenges, ensuring designs are practical, commercially viable and suitable for construction.
- Support the Technical team in managing design programmes, technical submissions and approval processes.
- Monitor design progress, identify potential risks and help resolve issues that could affect project delivery.
- Work collaboratively with Commercial, Construction, Land and Planning teams to support the successful delivery of developments.
- Maintain accurate technical records and ensure information is communicated clearly to relevant stakeholders.
About You
We are keen to hear from a motivated Design Engineer who has a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and an interest in residential development.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in a civil engineering design role, preferably within housebuilding or a consulting engineering practice.
- Knowledge of residential infrastructure, including highways, drainage, levels and utilities.
- An understanding of technical approvals, statutory agreements and relevant design standards.
- Experience coordinating external consultants and managing technical information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical and commercially aware approach.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive attitude and the confidence to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
A relevant civil engineering qualification would be advantageous. Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or drainage design packages would also be beneficial.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers the opportunity to develop your career within residential housebuilding, gaining exposure to a variety of development projects and working closely with an experienced team to help deliver quality new homes.
