The TGW Retrofit team are looking for a senior control system engineer to work on our complex upgrade projects on our live customer sites. You will be working closely with the controls project manager to develop and provide control system functions for retrofit projects.
Responsibilities
- Understand design requirements and undertake mathematical analysis where necessary to produce concept designs for materials handling machines.
- Collaborate with other departments within the business such as Sales, LTS, Realisation and System Integration Management Teams.
- Work with systems and hardware design teams to produce functional electro-mechanical layouts and electrical panels, which may require the introduction of new technologies.
- Define and agree interface points and requirements with Warehouse Management System Teams.
- Develop software concepts and PLC/HMI code using mainly but not restricted to Siemens Step 7, and Siemens TIA Portal.
- Emulate and test PLC code where required.
- Develop interface requirements for WCS systems, HMIs and SCADA.
- Test, evaluate and perfect the PLC software and produce documentation and design guides for the PLC commissioning teams.
- Maintain revision control across PLC code libraries developed by the team and document all changes.
- Work as part of the commissioning team on retrofit projects to ensure knowledge transfer is complete and all issues have been resolved with the newly developed PLC code.
- Promote and steer company standards and ensure best practice is implemented in the design.
- Undertake certain elements of System and hardware Engineering and at times carry out some minor project management duties.
Qualifications
- Ability to design/develop PLC code ideally using Siemens S7 (300/400) & TIA software – including complex application and bespoke interfaces.
- Ability to take customer / TGW requirements and produce detailed design documentation.
- Extensive experience of commissioning and testing in an engineering / industrial environment.
- Detailed understanding of control system hardware, networks, fieldbus and industrial drives etc.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of functional safety programming.
- Background in Material Handling/Conveyor Industry or similar industry.
- Ability to design/develop HMI / SCADA.
- Previous experience of working with motion control via servo drives.
