The TGW Retrofit team are looking for an experienced controls engineer to join the department as a Lead Commissioning Engineer. You will be working closely with the controls project manager to develop and provide control system functions for retrofit projects. These projects can range in value up to a few million pounds and really need an experienced controls engineer to take the reins and ensure the engineering is completed on time and to spec.

You will be working on roles across Northern Europe and will likely enjoy the rush of working on multiple smaller projects vs one large one at a time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding design requirements and undertaking mathematical analysis where necessary to produce concept designs for materials handling machines.
  • Collaborating with other departments within the business such as Sales, LTS, Realisation and System Integration Management Teams.
  • Working with systems and hardware design teams to produce functional electro-mechanical layouts and electrical panels, which may require the introduction of new technologies.
  • Defining and agreeing interface points and requirements with Warehouse Management System Teams.
  • Developing software concepts and PLC/HMI code using mainly but not restricted to Siemens Step 7 and Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Emulating and testing PLC code where required.
  • Testing, evaluating and perfecting the PLC software and producing documentation and design guides for the PLC commissioning teams.
  • Maintaining revision control across PLC code libraries developed by the team and documenting all changes.
  • Working as part of the commissioning team on retrofit projects to ensure knowledge transfer is complete and all issues have been resolved with the newly developed PLC code.
  • Exhibiting good housekeeping skills including revision control and as-built documentation.
  • Undertaking certain elements of System and hardware Engineering and at times carrying out some minor project management duties, with training provided.

Requirements:

  • Ability to design/develop PLC code ideally using Siemens S7 (300/400) & TIA software including complex application and bespoke interfaces.
  • Extensive experience of commissioning and testing in an engineering/industrial environment.
  • Detailed understanding of control system hardware, networks, fieldbus and industrial drives.
  • Knowledge of functional safety programming.
