TGS Site Characterisation is seeking a highly motivated Lead Geoscientist to help drive our growing portfolio of Offshore Wind, Site Surveys and Carbon Storage subsurface projects. This role will play a central part in delivering high-quality geoscience products, advancing our UHR3D New Energy strategy, and shaping the next generation of subsurface workflows and technologies. You will lead interpretation, ground modelling, and geohazard assessment activities and provide technical management for complex multidisciplinary projects. This is an opportunity to influence both the technical direction and commercial growth of TGS’ New Energy Solutions (NES) offering, and to represent TGS as a technical authority across industry and academic forums.

Purpose & Scope

  • Ensure high-quality delivery of all surface and subsurface interpretation, reporting, and final deliverables for Site Characterisation projects.
  • Develop and deliver TGS’ subsurface product and service offering for Wind, CCS and Site Survey markets.
  • Lead department initiatives and contribute to strategic objectives for New Energy geoscience.
  • Support the Business Development and Bid teams through client engagement and technical proposal writing.
  • Provide technical management and mentoring of junior geoscientist colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Interpretation & Assessment
  • Create and manage ground model projects using industry standard software.
  • Perform seismic stratigraphic and geohazard interpretation, including point diffractor mapping and shallow gas assessment.
  • Integrate and assess geotechnical and geological data into the UHR3D ground model.
  • Perform interpretation using a variety of 3D volumes including PSTM, PSDM, velocity tomography, harnessing the power of volume attributes in addition to conventional seismo-stratigraphic structural mapping.
  • Align frequently with Acquisition and Imaging teams to ensure optimal data quality and consistency of outputs.
  • Apply and uphold industry best practice and guidelines across all interpretation workflows.
  • Analyze and test new ground model software and promote the use of AI/ML technology to enable more efficient, accurate and innovative products.
  • Reporting & Deliverables
    • Ensure cost and schedule targets are delivered on Site Characterisation projects.
    • Lead reporting on the integrated ground model, combining multisensor data assessments and subcontractor contributions.
    • Lead technical calls with clients to provide structured progress and communication of technical concepts and outcomes.
  • Quality Management
    • Ensure accuracy and quality of all data and deliverables, adhering to the TGS Quality Management System.
    • Support internal and external project closeout processes, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement across active and future projects.
  • Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Support technical proposal creation, contributing material for technical solutions and conducting time-resource estimates.
    • Collaborate with the Project Owner and project team, attending internal and client meetings.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of TGS’ Site Characterisation Geoscience strategy.
    • Identify and promote cross-business collaborations to deliver integrated, end-to-end product offerings.
    • Represent TGS externally as a geoscience expert, producing and presenting technical marketing material.
    • Engage with industry and academia to understand emerging subsurface challenges and translate them into new workflows, products, and services.

    Key Competencies

    • Deep and extensive knowledge of geology/geoscience and comprehensive experience from relevant industry sector.
    • Ability to be the authority on methodology, practice and approach on geology/geoscience for Site Characterization in TGS.
    • Demonstrated use and application of 3D geological modelling for CCUS site characterization and potential application in advanced OFW site characterization.
    • Experience in developing, implementing, and driving new technology and workflows.
    • Relevant experience and insights into the value of digitalization in the geoscience domain.
    • Be highly proficient in various ground modelling software and database management, CRS, data management and data loading workflows with proven experience using UHR3D and SBP datasets.
    • Good understanding of energy markets and the commercial drivers for site investigation.
    • Quality focused, ensuring sufficient scrutiny on products and processes, achieving technical compliance and delivery requirements.
    • Self-motivated with excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication skills; ability to build sound external relationships and to clearly communicate geoscience concepts to all stakeholders.
    • Collaborative behaviour, ability to create a positive climate for collaboration and development both internally and with clients and other relevant parties.
    • Growth mindset - be ready to take on new challenges in emerging Wind and Carbon storage and site survey technical and business development.
