A specialist engineering consultancy delivering ICT and low voltage infrastructure solutions across complex technical environments is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to support the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally.

Role Overview

The position will involve leading technical project teams, managing structured cabling and telecoms infrastructure designs, coordinating with clients and contractors, and overseeing project delivery from design through to implementation. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and supporting technical quality across multiple projects. International travel may be required depending on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams across ICT and structured cabling projects.
  • Produce and review technical designs, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, suppliers, and consultants throughout project lifecycles.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers and consultants.
  • Carry out site surveys, inspections, testing reviews, and reporting activities.
  • Ensure installations and testing activities align with operational requirements and technical standards.
  • Provide technical input during meetings and support decision-making on project progression.
  • Validate designs, calculations, and drawings to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Support delivery of projects within programme and budget requirements.

Required Experience

  • Previous experience leading technical teams within structured cabling or ICT infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling systems and physical network infrastructure design.
  • Experience producing technical specifications and coordinating installation activities.
  • Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with relevant UK and international industry standards and health.
