Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior BIM Technician to join our CAD, design and project teams, providing technical expertise across BIM modelling, coordination and drawing production.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in MEP project environments, with practical experience developing and coordinating BIM models. Knowledge of IT infrastructure within data centre and enterprise environments would be advantageous.

You will develop and maintain accurate 3D BIM models using Revit and Navisworks, interpret 2D drawings and technical information, and work closely with engineers, designers and other disciplines to ensure designs are fully coordinated.

The role will also involve BIM coordination, design reviews, clash detection, coordination meetings and ensuring model information is correctly structured, tagged and annotated in line with project specifications and BIM Execution Plan requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update and maintain detailed 3D BIM models using Revit and Navisworks.
  • Translate 2D drawings and technical information into accurate BIM models.
  • Coordinate model content across multiple trades and disciplines.
  • Add relevant information, tagging and annotation to model components.
  • Maintain model quality, accuracy and consistency throughout projects.
  • Apply project-specific BIM standards and requirements.
  • Participate in BIM coordination and design review meetings.
  • Carry out clash detection using Navisworks and investigate identified conflicts.
  • Work with project and design teams to resolve coordination issues.
  • Identify technical concerns and design conflicts at an early stage.
  • Assist with tracking and closing out clashes.
  • Ensure coordinated models comply with BIM Execution Plan requirements.

CAD & Drawing Production

  • Produce and update 2D drawings and layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Generate drawings from BIM information for project documentation.
  • Provide technical BIM support to the CAD function.
  • Ensure drawings accurately reflect the latest coordinated design.
  • Develop detailed model outputs from existing 2D design information.

Project & Design Support

  • Work alongside CAD technicians, designers, engineers and project teams to deliver BIM requirements.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and construction trades to resolve design and coordination matters.
  • Attend project meetings and provide technical BIM input.
  • Communicate issues clearly and ensure actions are followed through.
  • Support delivery of BIM information within agreed timescales.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of technical accuracy.

Candidate Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience as a BIM Technician or Senior BIM Technician within an MEP project environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience developing 3D BIM models from 2D drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to coordinate models across multiple trades and disciplines.
  • Experience with clash detection and coordination using Navisworks.
  • Understanding of BIM Execution Plans and project BIM standards.
  • Previous construction industry experience.
  • Experience working with project stakeholders and multiple professional trades.
  • Good understanding of technical design principles and industry standards.
  • Experience producing 2D technical drawings.
  • Competent with Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Project, Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage demanding workloads and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project team.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure within data centre and enterprise environments.
  • Experience producing drawings for structured cabling installations.
  • Experience producing structured cabling floor plans and building schematics.
  • Experience developing cabinet and frame layouts.
  • Experience producing cable density drawings.
  • Experience creating detailed installation drawings.
  • Experience producing isometric diagrams.
  • Experience coordinating structured cabling requirements within BIM models.
  • Understanding of how IT infrastructure interfaces with MEP and wider building services.
  • Strong technical BIM modelling capability.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD.
  • Good understanding of MEP design and construction environments.
  • Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Confident identifying and resolving design coordination issues.
  • Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise work across multiple project requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Proactive approach to identifying potential design and coordination issues.
