A specialist division within a critical infrastructure organisation is seeking an Estimator with proven experience in Electrical, Data Centre, and/or Critical Environments. The Estimator will provide commercial support by assessing costs for key project elements such as major plant items, electrical systems, and subcontract packages across electrical, mechanical, and fabric disciplines. A solid understanding of construction technology and delivery methods (both on-site and off-site) is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Issue subcontract and material enquiries across multiple packages
- Attend site visits and collaborate with client teams
- Conduct site visits with prospective suppliers and subcontractors
- Review and analyse specifications and drawings
- Understand the duties of principal contractors and subcontractors
- Identify potential risks and opportunities
- Complete take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Use estimating software (generic estimating tools)
- Contribute to design and value engineering discussions
- Review subcontractor submissions for compliance with tender requirements
- Provide input on programme timelines, highlighting potential lead-time risks
- Support formal tender submissions
- Assist in preparing proposal documents
Personal Specification
- Engineering background with knowledge of electrical systems
- HNC/HND or degree in Electrical/Building Services (desirable but not essential)
- Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to meet deadlines without compromising quality
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and an effective team player
- Strong communication skills across all levels of the organisation
- Demonstrable track record of successful tenders within data centres, comms rooms, or critical infrastructure projects
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a building services estimating role
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Security clearance beneficial but not essential
