Health & Safety Advisor – Data Centres & Critical Infrastructure

Location: Bank, London, UK

Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 per annum

Working Location: Office-based in Bank, London, with regular travel to project sites as required

About the Role

An international Data Centre and technology organisation is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of Data Centre, MEP and critical infrastructure projects across the UK and EMEA.

Based from the organisation's office in Bank, London, with regular site visits required, you will work closely with project management, construction teams, contractors, clients and senior Health & Safety leadership to provide proactive Health & Safety support across active project environments.

You will monitor site activities, identify hazards, review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), support workforce training and engagement, investigate incidents and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, client requirements and company Health & Safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership

• Provide professional Health & Safety advice to project teams, management and stakeholders.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor Health & Safety standards and working practices.
• Promote a positive Health & Safety culture across office and project environments.
• Maintain a visible presence on active construction and Data Centre sites.
• Engage with employees, contractors and project teams to promote safe working practices.
• Support the implementation of company Health & Safety policies and initiatives.

Site Safety & Compliance

• Undertake regular Health & Safety inspections, audits and site visits.
• Monitor activities to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
• Identify hazards and assess risks associated with construction and Data Centre activities.
• Ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
• Monitor compliance with safe systems of work.
• Identify unsafe practices and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Support compliance with UK and applicable EMEA Health & Safety legislation.
• Ensure client-specific Health & Safety requirements are implemented.

Risk Assessment & Method Statements

• Review contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
• Ensure RAMS are suitable, sufficient and relevant to the activities being undertaken.
• Provide guidance on risk control measures.
• Monitor compliance with approved RAMS during site activities.
• Identify changes requiring RAMS to be reviewed or updated.
• Ensure appropriate permits, controls and documentation are in place for high-risk activities.

Training & Workforce Engagement

• Deliver and support Health & Safety inductions for employees, contractors and visitors.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and task-specific training where required.
• Promote workforce engagement and individual responsibility for Health & Safety.
• Communicate changes to legislation, standards and company procedures.
• Verify employee and contractor training and competency records.
• Support Health & Safety campaigns and initiatives.
• Encourage reporting of hazards, near misses and safety concerns.

Incident & Emergency Management

• Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Attend project sites following significant incidents where required.
• Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
• Ensure incident reports are completed accurately and promptly.
• Monitor corrective action close-out.
• Support emergency response planning and preparedness.
• Ensure lessons learned are communicated across project teams.

Contractor & Supply Chain Management

• Monitor contractor Health & Safety performance across project sites.
• Conduct site visits and audits to assess contractor compliance.
• Review contractor RAMS, training records and competency information.
• Engage with subcontractors to address Health & Safety concerns.
• Support the management of competent contractors and suppliers.
• Escalate serious or repeated non-compliance.
• Promote consistent Health & Safety standards throughout the supply chain.

Quality & Documentation

• Maintain accurate Health & Safety documentation and project records.
• Complete inspection reports, audit reports and safety observations.
• Maintain statutory records and relevant Health & Safety logs.
• Support internal and external Health & Safety audits.
• Monitor and report on corrective actions.
• Provide Health & Safety performance updates to project management.
• Prepare reports and recommendations following site visits.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Build effective relationships with clients, contractors and project stakeholders.
• Represent the organisation professionally at client offices and project sites.
• Provide practical Health & Safety advice to project teams.
• Participate in client meetings, project reviews and Health & Safety meetings.
• Communicate safety performance, risks and corrective actions.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, site managers, engineers and contractors.

Environmental & Continuous Improvement

• Support environmental and sustainability objectives across projects.
• Promote responsible environmental practices and waste reduction.
• Monitor environmental risks associated with construction activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve Health & Safety systems and processes.
• Monitor changes in legislation and industry best practice.
• Share knowledge and promote continuous improvement in Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
• 3–8 years of relevant Health & Safety experience.
• Experience within construction, MEP or Data Centre environments.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Experience monitoring Health & Safety on active construction or Data Centre sites.
• Experience conducting inspections, audits and safety observations.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and risk-control principles.
• Experience reviewing RAMS.
• Experience delivering inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Experience investigating incidents, accidents and near misses.
• Strong contractor and subcontractor management experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Health & Safety documentation systems.
• Ability to work independently and across multiple project environments.
• Willingness to undertake regular travel to project sites across London, the UK and EMEA.
• Ability to balance office-based responsibilities with regular site-based activities.

Desirable

• NEBOSH Diploma or currently working towards the qualification.
• Membership of IOSH, IIRSM or another recognised professional Health & Safety organisation.
• Experience on large-scale Data Centre construction or fit-out projects.
• Experience within MEP construction environments.
• Experience working across UK and EMEA jurisdictions.
• Knowledge of European Health & Safety legislation.
