The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional Electrical Lead to take technical ownership of the electrical engineering function across major data centre and mission-critical projects.
This is a senior leadership position for an experienced electrical engineer with a strong track record in data centre, hyperscale, colocation or other mission-critical environments.
You will lead electrical design strategy from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operational handover, acting as the senior technical authority for electrical systems.
The successful candidate will have the technical credibility to challenge designs, lead engineering teams, engage directly with clients and stakeholders, and shape the electrical engineering standards and strategy for major data centre developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering and design strategy for major data centre developments.
- Provide technical leadership from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
- Take ownership of electrical design standards, specifications, philosophies and engineering governance.
- Lead and review HV, MV and LV electrical infrastructure.
- Develop and approve power distribution architectures and resilience strategies including N, N+1, 2N and 2N+1.
- Oversee the design of substations, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators and critical power distribution.
- Lead utility/grid connection strategies and engagement with DNOs and other utility providers.
- Oversee protection, discrimination, earthing, bonding, lightning protection and power-quality strategies.
- Review electrical load assessments, capacity modelling and power-system studies.
- Provide technical leadership on high-density and AI-ready data centre electrical infrastructure.
- Work closely with mechanical, controls, BMS, ICT, structural, architectural and civil engineering teams.
- Ensure electrical systems are fully coordinated with mechanical cooling and other mission-critical systems.
- Lead technical design reviews, peer reviews, value engineering and design assurance.
- Provide technical direction to consultants, contractors, suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
- Act as the senior electrical point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
- Lead engineering workshops and technical meetings.
- Develop and mentor senior engineers, associates and wider engineering teams.
- Support project bids, proposals, technical strategies and client presentations.
- Establish and maintain engineering quality standards and best practice.
- Provide technical input into procurement and equipment selection.
- Review contractor technical submissions, equipment specifications and design proposals.
- Support construction, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
- Develop commissioning philosophies and support integrated systems testing.
- Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and repeatable design solutions across the data centre portfolio.
- Promote energy efficiency, sustainability and improved PUE while maintaining resilience and operational reliability.
