Overview of the Role:
The role of the Infrastructure Design Consultant is to focus primarily on ICT infrastructure fit-out projects. Leading client engagements and having an in-depth understanding of how projects are run within the RIBA project framework are essential. This role is ideal for someone with a broad range of technical and communication skills who has worked on various build and fit-out projects and can identify and resolve issues clearly, concisely, and logically.
The successful candidate will report to the Professional Services Director and will be responsible for maintaining high technical standards and compliance throughout the project.
Additionally, the Infrastructure Design Consultant will work closely with the Professional Services Director to develop client relationships, provide technical input, and assist in identifying future opportunities aligned with the strategic goals:
- Securing and developing long-term customer relationships.
- Maximizing repeat business.
- Identifying new opportunities within the existing client base.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Develop designs, reports, specifications, budgets, and equipment schedules in line with RIBA Stages.
- Maintain ownership of the design throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure designs comply with industry, technical, regional, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct formal presentations at presales, tender interviews, and to clients and design team members.
- Manage commissioning, witness testing, snagging, and reporting.
- Prepare design documentation and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with production teams in preparing technical drawings, schematics, and design details.
- Work remotely from the UK on projects throughout EMEA.
- Travel to sites across EMEA for inspections and meetings.
- Interface with multiple client, partner, and project teams across EMEA.
Required Skills & Attributes:
- Detailed knowledge of Low Voltage Systems and support systems:
- Copper and fibre cable media.
- 10GB/40GB/100GB connectivity.
- Cable testing.
- IT equipment room design.
- Containment and cabinetry.
- Telecoms provider services.
- Understanding of technologies such as:
- Local and wide area networks.
- Wireless networks.
- Audio-visual systems.
- Security systems.
- Extensive experience coordinating Low Voltage Systems design with MEP, architectural, and technology disciplines across all stages of the RIBA (or international equivalent) design process.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Industry-related design qualifications (e.g., BICSI RCDD).
- Experience producing coordinated Low Voltage design drawings and documentation (AutoCAD and Revit work performed by production teams under your instruction).
- Ability to plan and execute complex projects.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting floor plans and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of the design and construction of IT equipment rooms and data centres.
- Experience in project completion and handover of infrastructure projects.
- Strong communication skills at all levels.
- Ability to lead a team and work as part of one.
- High level of IT literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat).
- Experience with project and resource management tools.
- Rigorous attention to detail and quality management.
- Experience with site surveys and inspections.
- Ability to mark-up drawings for production by remote CAD technicians.
- Experience presenting at client or project interviews.
- Familiarity with high-volume, high-speed projects.
