We are a recruitment partner working with a well-established smart building technology specialist that has been delivering innovative, integrated building services solutions for several decades. The business operates across commercial and residential projects, with a strong focus on structured cabling, security, AV, and smart building systems.
They are now looking to appoint a BIM / CAD Technician to support live projects, bids, and small works across London.
The Role
This is a hands-on technical role focused on producing high-quality 2D and 3D drawings and BIM models for structured cabling, security systems, audio-visual solutions, Wi-Fi heatmaps, and CCTV field-of-view designs. You’ll work closely with project teams, designers, and engineers to deliver coordinated, compliant, and buildable designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and Revit, including floor plans, schematics, and coordinated models
- Develop structured cabling designs, including cable tray and pathway layouts
- Create security system layouts (CCTV and access control) and AV integration designs
- Support BIM coordination, clash detection, model updates, and COBie outputs
- Assist project, bid, and small works teams with technical drawings and documentation
- Carry out Wi-Fi heatmap survey designs using industry-standard software (e.g. Ekahau) and generate reports
- Design and optimise CCTV Field of View (FOV), including camera placement and lens selection
- Maintain and manage CAD/BIM files, ensuring version control and good file housekeeping
- Ensure drawings comply with company standards, building regulations, and industry best practice
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience using AutoCAD (2D & 3D)
- Minimum 1 year’s experience using Revit (3D)
- Solid understanding of IT cabling infrastructure, security systems, and AV systems
- Working knowledge of BIM methodologies and coordinated design environments
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary project teams
Qualifications:
Essential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths or English and Technical Drawing
- Autodesk AutoCAD Certification
- Autodesk Revit Certification
Desirable
- Wi-Fi survey certification (e.g. Ekahau, AirMagnet)
- Additional industry-specific or higher-level technical qualifications
Full UK driving licence
