The Smart Building Solutions Design Lead will operate within the presales and preconstruction function, managing and contributing to allocated opportunities from initial enquiry through bid submission and into the pre-construction phase. This role involves:
- Leading the scoping, design, costing, and bid proposal production for multi-technology smart building solutions.
- Managing post-award pre-construction activities, including technical design, commercial input, and handover to delivery teams.
- Collaborating with teams across the organisation to ensure solutions meet client requirements and align with strategic goals.
The role requires a strong blend of technical, commercial, and leadership skills, with exposure to a wide range of smart building technologies, including:
- Master System Integrator/Operator Services
- Building IoT (occupancy and environmental monitoring)
- Physical IT infrastructure (copper and fibre cabling)
- Network systems (LAN, WiFi, voice, in-building mobile, servers, storage)
- Electronic security (access control, CCTV, intercom, intruder alarms)
- Audio-visual systems (video conferencing, IPTV, digital signage, background music)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead allocated opportunities throughout the bid and pre-construction phases.
- Produce high-quality technical and commercial bid proposals.
- Own opportunities from receipt of tender documentation to bid submission, project award, and pre-construction activities.
- Collaborate effectively with sales, operations, delivery, technology leads, and procurement teams.
- Attend client meetings, site surveys, presentations, and pre-construction design sessions.
- Deliver both technical and commercial presentations.
- Create and maintain supporting documentation and templates for pre-sales and pre-construction activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and partners.
- Ensure smooth handover of awarded projects to delivery teams.
