Role
The Design lead sits within the pre-sales and pre-construction function, responsible for designing, scoping, and costing integrated smart building solutions. The role covers the full bid lifecycle—from initial enquiry through to project award and early-stage delivery—ensuring solutions meet both technical and commercial requirements. You will work across multiple technologies including IoT, ICT infrastructure, networking, security, and AV systems, supporting complex multi-system projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support bid activities from enquiry through to submission and award.
- Develop technical designs and cost models for smart building solutions.
- Produce high-quality proposals and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, delivery, procurement, technical).
- Attend client meetings, site surveys, and presentations.
- Manage tender documentation, risks, and project requirements.
- Support pre-construction design and ensure smooth handover to delivery teams.
- Build relationships with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders.
- Deliver both technical and commercial input throughout projects.
Additional (Skills & Experience)
- Experience in smart building, ICT, or multi-technology solution design.
- Strong knowledge of systems such as IoT, networking, security, AV, and cable.
- Background in pre-sales, estimating, or pre-construction environments.
- Commercial awareness with ability to produce and analyse costings.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel).
- Understanding of construction processes and tenders.
