Job Description

Data Centre Engineer – Field

Location: Bracknell, Berkshire, UK

Salary: £35,000–£38,000

Permanent

Main duties include

  • Racking and stacking of servers, network devices and storage
  • Ability to read and understand patching schedules
  • Patching to an extremely high standard
  • Auditing hardware and cabling in existing data centre environments
  • Pulling and terminating Cat5e/6/6a and various fibre structured cabling systems
  • Contributing to the design of data centre deployments as well as other client requirements
  • Being a key part of data centre migration projects

Experience Required

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in structured cabling and patching
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in data centre environments, ideally as part of a DC Ops team
  • Must hold an appropriate cabling certification – CNCI, BTEC, City & Guilds or BICSI
  • Complete understanding of industry best practices in cabling installations and testing procedures for both copper and fibre solutions
  • Proficient in the use of copper and fibre testing equipment, including OTDR, Fluke, network analyser and VFL
  • Excellent understanding of CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, OM3/OM4 and OS2 cabling systems
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge and experience in installation of copper, fibre, and general data centre infrastructure
  • Installation, termination and testing of both copper and fibre network cables
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills using loss calculation equipment, VFL, etc.
