Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Centre Engineer to provide operational support within a high-availability data centre environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of all hardware installations, maintenance tasks, infrastructure projects, and compliance with operational standards.
This role follows a rotational 24/7 shift pattern and requires a hands-on professional with solid technical skills, strong organisational capabilities, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate within a rotating 24/7 shift schedule (4 days on / 4 days off / 4 nights on / 4 nights off)
- Carry out change control management in line with documented procedures
- Manage and resolve incidents within agreed service levels
- Maintain and track IT and infrastructure assets
- Supervise and escort third-party vendors on-site
- Plan and implement IT hardware installations in accordance with strict data centre standards
- Plan and carry out hardware decommissioning and structured cabling removal
- Update relevant documentation, inventories, and system records accurately
- Complete service requests within SLA timeframes
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and operational standards
- Follow established quality control and security procedures relating to data centre environments
Technical Duties:
- Maintain and use toolsets that support data centre operations and management
- Oversee day-to-day governance of the data centre
- Collaborate with facilities teams to optimise energy usage and improve efficiency
- Oversee data centre installations, decommissions, patching, changes, and scheduled maintenance
- Support infrastructure improvement projects, including those involving power supply systems
- Conduct basic server configuration tasks (e.g., iDRAC, iLO)
- Perform fault diagnosis and escalate where required
- Manage and maintain complex inter-rack and inter-room cabling infrastructures
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience working in high-risk and data centre environments
- Understanding of DCIM tools and related standards (preferred)
- Familiarity with ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy) (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude
- Good understanding of infrastructure and networking technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and helpdesk/service delivery applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle operational challenges
- Capable of working autonomously and as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptable to shift patterns and workload demands
- Excellent organisational and administrative capabilities
- Prior experience in a similar technical support or infrastructure role is essential
