The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Site Engineer with a background in cooling systems, HVAC, pipe-fitting, chilled water, liquid cooling, or mechanical building services to support the delivery of major data centre projects across Portugal and Europe. This is an 18-month contract-to-permanent opportunity, offering the chance to work on large-scale mission-critical projects with a long-term pipeline of work across Europe. The successful candidate will support the installation, coordination, testing, and commissioning of critical mechanical infrastructure while contributing to the delivery of advanced data centre facilities designed to support cloud computing and AI technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of mechanical packages on major data centre projects.
- Coordinate the installation of chilled water, cooling water, HVAC, liquid cooling, and mechanical piping systems.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Monitor installation quality and ensure compliance with project standards and industry regulations.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.
- Assist with procurement, material tracking, and project reporting.
- Support testing, flushing, pressure testing, commissioning, and system handover activities.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning phases.
- Maintain project records, quality documentation, and progress reports.
- Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Support project delivery across multiple European locations as required.
Mechanical & Cooling Systems Experience

Requirements
- Previous experience delivering mechanical installation, construction, commissioning, or maintenance projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water, cooling water, cooling, and mechanical piping systems.
- Experience working within data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, energy, or large commercial construction environments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Europe.
- Full right to work within the EU or ability to obtain the necessary work authorisation.
