We’re currently supporting a major delivery partner on large-scale data centre projects and are looking for experienced Contract Cable Technicians to join site teams across multiple locations.
This role is strictly for contractors with proven data centre experience, their own tools, and strong recent project references.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be working on high-spec data centre installations and upgrades, carrying out structured cabling works across live and new build environments. Typical duties include:
- Installing, dressing and securing copper and fibre cabling
- Terminating Cat6 / Cat6A and fibre (LC, SC, MPO/MTP)
- Patching and cross-connects within racks and cabinets
- Installing and populating patch panels
- Rack and stack of IT and network equipment
- Fibre splicing where required (advantageous, not essential)
- Testing and fault finding (Fluke and fibre testers)
- Labelling and documenting all cabling correctly
- Working to strict data centre quality and safety standards
- Maintaining clean, compliant work areas
Projects include hyperscale, colocation and AI-driven data centre environments.
What you’ll need
This is not a junior role. We’re looking for technicians who can hit the ground running:
- Proven experience as a Cable Technician / Structured Cabling Engineer
- Must have previous data centre experience
- Strong knowledge of fibre and copper cabling systems
- Confident with patching, terminating, testing and labelling
- Able to read drawings and follow installation plans
- Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Comfortable working as part of a site team
- Strong understanding of health & safety on live sites
- Must be able to speak English (site communication & safety)
- Must be able to provide 2 strong references from recent projects or employers
Tools & equipment
Contractors must supply their own standard hand tools and installation equipment, including:
- Basic termination tools
- Hand tools (snips, strippers, punch-down tools, etc.)
- Test equipment (Fluke or equivalent preferred)
Specialist equipment such as OTDRs and fusion splicers may be provided on some projects if required.
Advantageous experience (nice to have)
- Previous work in hyperscale or AI-focused data centres
- Fibre splicing experience (fusion or ribbon)
- MPO/MTP systems
- OTDR testing
- Containment and rack build experience
- Manufacturer cabling certifications (CommScope, Panduit, Excel, Siemon, etc.)
