With a rich heritage and a new name, TGJones is the fresh face of a much-loved and trusted British brand. Our roots lie in WHSmith, where we’ve proudly supported the high street retail estate for generations. Now, under the ownership of specialist retail investors, Modella Capital, we’re entering an exciting new chapter with bold ambitions to become ‘Your Hub of the High Street’.
As a Store Leader, you’ll lead and inspire your team to provide exceptional customer service, meet business objectives and create a working environment that helps our colleagues to develop and achieve. At our Cannock store, you’ll also oversee the day-to-day operation of our Post Office service, ensuring we deliver a safe, efficient and welcoming experience for every customer. You’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards across both the retail store and Post Office, supporting your team to deliver excellent service while ensuring operational and compliance standards are consistently met.
We want you, our customers, and our colleagues to feel proud to be part of the story we’re creating together. From first days at school to first birthdays and beyond, you’ll play a key role in helping our customers find everything they need to create meaningful moments and lasting memories — while providing essential Post Office services within the Cannock community.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Inspiring and engaging your team to achieve outstanding standards and performance, aligned with the objectives of the Trading Plan
- Reviewing the Trading Plan with your Cluster Manager and using the scorecard to set and agree key actions and priorities that will lead to success for your store, reporting back to your team on store, cluster and area performance
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the Post Office service, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient processes and high standards of operational compliance
- Ensuring colleagues are confident and capable in delivering Post Office services, providing coaching, support and ongoing development where required
- Fostering a strong sense of pride across the store by ensuring colleague and customer areas are well-maintained, while upholding high standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence
- Creating a culture of learning, support and recognition — spotting opportunities for development of personal skills, product knowledge and self-awareness to support our colleagues in an environment where everyone feels valued and welcome
- Managing and balancing the needs of the retail operation and Post Office service, ensuring both areas deliver a consistently high standard of customer experience
- Building strong relationships with colleagues, customers and key partners to ensure the store and Post Office are an important and trusted part of the local community
About you
We’re looking for driven leaders who are focused on building a meaningful career — not just securing their next role. You’ll have a deep commitment to delivering exceptional in-store experiences, setting high operational and service standards, and inspiring your team to achieve collective success. You’ll be a confident, hands-on leader who is comfortable balancing commercial retail priorities with the operational requirements of a Post Office environment. You’ll enjoy being visible on the shop floor, developing your team and creating an environment where colleagues feel supported and motivated to deliver their best.
Skills needed for this role will include:
- Retail leadership experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment, with working knowledge of KPIs such as ATV and TPC
- Experience of leading by example — actively engaging with your team on the shop floor and driving performance through hands-on support
- Experience of working within a regulated or compliance-focused environment would be advantageous
- The ability to confidently lead and oversee Post Office operations, ensuring colleagues follow the required processes, procedures and standards
- A flexible and adaptable mindset, with the willingness to provide support across other stores in the area as required
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and effectively across all levels of the business
- Experience of supporting colleague training and development, and motivating teams through an ‘engage’ rather than ‘tell’ approach
- A strong focus on customer service, with the ability to understand and respond to the different needs of both retail and Post Office customers
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and maintain high standards across multiple areas of the store
