Lead the strategic internal communications agenda for the People and Culture directorate, driving colleague engagement, organisational alignment and cultural transformation across Transport for Wales (TfW). This role will shape and deliver high-impact internal communications that support major people initiatives, including organisational change, colleague engagement, leadership engagement and visibility and culture development programmes. Acting as a trusted senior communications business partner, the post-holder will partner with senior leaders to ensure clear, consistent and compelling communication that builds understanding, trust and alignment with TfW's values and strategic priorities.
Role responsibilities
- Lead internal communications strategy for People and Culture.
- Develop and deliver an integrated internal communications strategy aligned to People and Culture priorities, working collaboratively with leaders and colleagues to create clear, consistent and engaging communications that improve understanding, engagement and organisational effectiveness.
- Support and lead culture change programmes by designing and delivering communications that support culture change initiatives, partnering with stakeholders across the organisation to embed desired behaviours, reinforce organisational values and enable sustainable transformation.
- Provide expert delivery, challenge and support to senior leaders on internal communications, engagement and culture, using insight and best practice to ensure communications are authentic, effective and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Design and deliver high-quality engagement activity that ensures colleagues feel informed, involved and connected, with a clear focus on listening, feedback loops and continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver communication strategies for complex people-led change programmes, working closely with leaders and stakeholders to provide timely, transparent and empathetic communications that build trust and support successful implementation.
- Create and maintain a consistent internal narrative that brings TfW's culture, purpose and people strategy to life, using engaging storytelling techniques to strengthen alignment, understanding and connection across the organisation.
- Equip leaders and managers with the tools, messaging and communication capability required to engage their teams effectively, enabling confident leadership communication during periods of change and transformation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications and engagement activity through data, insight and feedback, using findings to continuously improve approaches and enhance colleague experience.
- Collaborate with Corporate Communications and wider business functions to coordinate messaging and communication activity, ensuring a consistent colleague experience and alignment with organisational objectives.
- Lead the internal communications response to sensitive People and Culture matters, proactively identifying risks and providing strategic counsel to leaders to ensure transparent, consistent and aligned communications that protect organisational credibility and maintain colleague trust.
Who we're looking for
- Demonstrable experience operating at a senior level in internal communications within a large or complex organisation.
- Proven track record of leading internal communications for culture change or transformation programmes.
- Experience advising and influencing senior leadership teams on engagement and communications strategy.
- Proven understanding of colleague engagement, organisational culture and change communications principles.
- Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering internal campaigns that drive behavioural and cultural outcomes.
- Experience of managing stakeholder relationships during organisational change and transformation while leading, coaching and supporting others.
