The Location Belfast Fertility was established in 2013 and is Northern Ireland’s longest standing private IVF clinic. Due to the passion, expertise and reputation of our team, Belfast Fertility has grown and now performs approximately 500 fresh cycles and 400 frozen cycles per year. We offer a full suite of treatment and diagnostic services, including PGT. Conveniently located in a business park setting on the outskirts of Belfast, adjacent to J1 of the M2, there is ample free parking for staff & patients at the front of the building. Our state-of-the-art laboratory was purpose built in 2013 and is equipped with the latest equipment and monitoring systems that support us in achieving excellent outcome KPI’s. Belfast Fertility was awarded Northern Ireland's Fertility Clinic of the Year 2022 at the prestigious GHP Healthcare and Pharma awards and has a 5/5 inspection rating from the HFEA.
The Role The post holder will have a minimum of 8 years’ clinical experience; some of which will be at a senior or management level. They will be state/nationally registered, or immediately eligible for state/national registration. The post holder will lead a team of embryologists, andrologists and assistants in delivering the highest standards of patient care in line with national regulation and TFP policy. The post holder will be responsible for resource planning, service development and quality management within the laboratory area. The post holder will also be a member of the clinic management team and help to coordinate the activities of the functional areas of clinical service. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week – weekend rotation and on-call will be required at approximately 1:4.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Laboratory Operations
- Perform embryology and andrology procedures: semen analysis, ICSI, fertilisation checks, embryo culture, transfer, biopsy, and cryopreservation.
- Recruit, screen, and manage gamete donors in line with regulations.
- Ensure accurate patient records, effective consent, and communication of results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, cleanliness, air quality, and cryostore operations.
- Quality & Compliance
- Implement and maintain quality management systems, audits, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations, professional guidelines, and TFP policies.
- Manage Health & Safety, risk assessments, and laboratory documentation.
- Oversee laboratory KPIs, service improvements, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
- Resource & Team Management
- Manage equipment, stock, staffing levels, recruitment, training, rotas, and budgets.
- Lead induction, training, competency assessments, and performance management of staff.
- Support professional development and continuous learning of the laboratory team.
- Regulatory & Research Support
- Manage witnessing, traceability, gamete/embryo transport, and regulatory notifications.
- Support research planning, implementation, and reporting.
- Communication & Leadership
- Chair lab meetings, attend clinic management meetings, and contribute to strategic planning.
- Represent TFP at group meetings, industry events, and patient-facing initiatives.
- Foster collaboration across functional areas and support clinic-wide objectives.
- Confidentiality
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and company information in line with data protection legislation.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Degree in Life Science
- State Registered/Nationally Registered Scientist (or immediately eligible to apply)
- Minimum of 8 years clinical experience, including senior/management experience
- In-depth knowledge of clinical embryology biology and scientific evidence
- Understanding of related disciplines
- Knowledge of prevailing national legislation
- Experience with quality assurance and quality control in the laboratory
- Experience working with a quality management system
- Resource planning experience
- Experience in training junior staff and performance management
