Your Role

We are seeking an ITS Site Engineer to join our busy Highways team. With support and training provided by our experienced Highways Engineers, you will install, maintain and support TfGM’s traffic and sustainable transport monitoring and control systems including traffic signal communications equipment, cutting edge video analytics sensors, CCTV cameras, automatic traffic and cycle counters and variable message signs spread across the whole of the GM highway network. In this role, you will also be provided with training to provide you with the sufficient health and safety knowledge to carry out this role effectively and safely.

Greater Manchester is embarking on an exciting period of transition and evolving with a growing population and economy. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) manage the largest number of traffic signals and transport technology systems outside London. The challenge of managing such a large conurbation offers the opportunity to gain a wide breadth of experience.

The ITS team design, implement and maintain technology and infrastructure across Greater Manchester, supporting the day-to-day operation and management of the transport network. This involves assisting in the deployment of on-street assets such as machine-learning video analytic sensors, to trialling new and innovative technologies. The team work closely with the ten districts of Greater Manchester, National Highways and a variety of suppliers in order to deliver a range of innovative solutions.

What you’ll bring

You must hold a full driving license. You will have knowledge and understanding of health and safety at the roadside, electronic equipment configuration, experience of communicating with stakeholders and providing excellent customer service. You will work both independently and as part of a team, depending on the task.

What we can offer you

We currently have a permanent opportunity to join us as a Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Engineer, providing the chance to gain experience of installing and maintaining various types of innovative traffic and sustainable transport monitoring and control systems. The salary is £40,650 - £45,107 per annum depending on skills and experience.
